Three Southwest competitors won events at the Manitoba Threshermens Rodeo in Austin, MB on July 26-29.
Three of top four Team Roping entries featured Southwest cowboys. Waldeck’s Tuftin and Tyce McLeod won the event in 4.8 seconds for $2,244. Shamrock’s Kevin Turner worked with Kyle Chappel (Gravelbourg) to place second in 6.6 seconds for $1,857. Waldeck’s Tee and Scott McLeod tied for third in 7.6 seconds for $1,277.
Piapot’s Casey Bertram got the Saddle Bronc win with a 79-point ride on Warhorse for $939. Maple Creek’s Mike Gordon tied for second with 76 points on Kinky Boots for $696. Swift Current’s Timothy Costello tied for fourth with 72 points for $373.
Mankota’s Bailey Briere added a win in Ladies Barrel Racing in 17.04 seconds for $1,490.
Maple Creek’s Janae Wilson was second in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 17.35 seconds for $281.
Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer tied for third with Waldeck’s Tuftin McLeod in Tie Down Roping. They each finished in 10.3 seconds for $519.
Maple Creek’s Blake Link added a third-place finish in Novice Bareback with 62 points for $144.
Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram was fourth in Bareback with 70 points on Candy Alice for $488.
The Canadian Cowboys Association is in the Southwest this weekend for the Herbert Stampede and the Reno Rodeo in Consul.
