Former Swift Current Broncos Head Coach and General Manager Mark Lamb is returning to the Western Hockey League as the General Manager of the Prince George Cougars.
The Cougars announced Lamb as their sixth General Manager in franchise history on Tuesday when they announced that they had signed the 53-year-old to a four-year contract.
Todd Harkins had been the GM of the Cougars for the previous five seasons, but the franchise announced in March that they would not renew his contract.
The Cougars finished second last in the WHL last season with a 24-38-5-5 record.
Lamb was the Head Coach and General Manager of his hometown Broncos from 2009-2016, leading them to the playoffs in four of seven seasons, but was never able to win a playoff series.
He left the team in 2016 and was the Head Coach of the American Hockey League’s Tucson Roadrunners in 2016-17.
His previous coaching experience includes one season as an assistant with the Edmonton Oilers and six with the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League.
Lamb’s lengthy professional playing career included NHL stops with the Calgary Flames, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oiler, Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens.
