The Swift Current United Soccer Club was in Regina for the Challenge Cup over the weekend. Much of the tournament was cancelled when the City of Regina shut down their fields on Saturday and Sunday.
The younger age divisions were able to get on the field in Balgonie and the United Strikers won the U11 Boys Division.
They opened the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Regina’s FCR Slate on Friday. The United Strikers bounced back on Saturday with a 2-2 draw against Yorkton United FC and then downed QC United Black 2-1.
They avenged their previous loss with a 1-0 semi-final win over FCR Slate on Sunday. The United Strikers clinched gold on Sunday afternoon with a shootout win over the QC United U11 Girls.
The United Roma team also made a playoff appearance at the Challenge Cup. They tied QC United Black 1-1 on Friday to open the tournament. They also tied FCR Slate 1-1 and then defeated Yorkton 2-1. Their tournament came to an end on Sunday in a 2-1 loss to the QC United Girls.
The U11 United Girls also made it to the championship match in Regina. They opened the four-team round robin on Friday with a 2-0 win over the Weyburn Red Devils. Swift Current lost 2-1 on Saturday to Yorkton, but rebounded with a 1-0 win over QC United.
The United U11 Girls got a rematch with Yorkton on Sunday but lost 1-0 in the championship final.
The United Soccer Club will be in Saskatoon this weekend for the Bridge City Classic
