Swift Current’s Dylan Mortensen was named the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Saskatchewan Blue Cross Male Athlete of the Week after he led the men’s volleyball team to a weekend sweep of the Mount Royal University Cougars with 25 kills and 17 digs in two matches.
The 6’6’’ outside hitter is making an impact during his first season with the Huskies after red shirting last season.
The Huskies earned their first win of the season in four sets (25-23, 21-25, 27-25, 25-18) on Friday when Mortensen led all players with 16 kills and 12 digs.
The Huskies swept all three games Saturday (25-17, 25-23, 25-18) to improve to 2-8 on the season. Mortensen added nine kills and three digs in the win.
Mortensen has appeared in all 10 matches so far in his rookie season. The Swift Current Comp. High School Colts alumnus is second on the team with 104 kills and also has 40 digs in 36 sets played.
The Huskies will play their final two matches of 2017 this weekend when they visit the University of Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg.
