Swift Current will host the first of six Saskatchewan Party leadership candidate debates next month.
The first debate will be held in Swift Current on October 19 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Days Inn. The remaining five debates will be held in Melfort, Saskatoon, North Battleford, and Weyburn before wrapping up in Regina on December 7. The debates are open to Saskatchewan Party members and media.
The Saskatchewan Party will be electing a new leader after Premier Brad Wall’s announcement that he is stepping away from provincial politics.
Saskatoon Willowgrove MLA Ken Cheveldayoff and Rosthern-Shellbrook MLA Scott Moe have both officially filed their nomination papers, while Tina Beaudry-Mellor, MLA for Regina University, Gordon Wyant, MLA for Saskatoon Northwest MLA, along with Alanna Koch, the former Deputy Minister to the Premier, are also campaigning for the leadership.
All candidates that have been formally nominated at least one week in advance of each debate are able to participate in the debates.
