There will be a larger police presence in Swift Current and area today and Thursday during a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) campaign which will focus on road safety.
The RCMP South West Regional Traffic Services is hosting the two-day large-scale enforcement campaign from various locations in and around the City of Swift Current, including the TransCanada Highway plus Highway #4.
Participating agencies include RCMP Traffic Services from across Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Government Insurance, Saskatchewan municipal police agencies, Saskatchewan Highway Transport Patrol, Saskatchewan Justice, the Ministry of Finance, plus Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Police Services.
Officers will be set up in various locations to identify traffic violations and take enforcement action. Some targeted offences include excessive speed, occupant restraints, cellular phone use, unlicensed drivers and commercial vehicle enforcement. As usual, criminal offences such as impaired driving will be high on the list of enforcement.

This is a great example where a number of partners are able to come together for a common goal and target areas that are of a safety concern for road users in Saskatchewan.” stated Superintendent Grant St. Germaine, Officer-in-Charge – Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services.
Also present at each of the locations will be child restraint technicians to assist the general public and answer any questions such as if your child is in the proper type of restraint, has it been properly installed, or is the restraint expired.
