SHSAA SOCCER PROVINCIALS
The 5A Girls SHSAA 8-team provincial championship was hosted by SCCHS on October 30-31. Thanks to commissioner Adam Jackson and his Swift Current crew for putting on an amazing event.
The Ardens lost their first game to Regina Riffel,by a heartbreakingly close 2-1 score. Losing that match took them out of medal contention. The team rallied and won their second game 6-0 over Prince Albert Carleton. That put the Ardens into the Consolation Final versus Prince Albert St Mary. The Ardens won that match 9-1 to claim fifth place in the province. The only teams who placed higher than them were from Regina and Saskatoon.
The SCCHS Colts were in Saskatoon for the 5A boys SHSAA provincial soccer championships. They won their opening match against Regina Campbell (3-1). The Colts played in the championship semi-final next where they lost to Saskatoon Walter Murray (4-1). This loss relegated them into the bronze medal game. The bronze game was tied after regulation and they had to go to extra time. The SCCHS team lost 4-3 in extra time to finish fourth in the province.
SHSAA FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS
SWAC had three teams left participating in SHSAA provincial football playoffs on Saturday. All three teams played in quarterfinals in their classification.
9-man Shaunavon Shadows played in Melville. They were in tough against this strong team, losing 35-0 to the hometown team.
The 12-man Swift Current team hosted Moose Jaw Central in the rural south league final (SHSAA provincial quarter final). The Colts were down 14-0 at the half, and put up a valiant effort in the second half, but lost 28-21.
2A 6-man Maple Creek hosted Wynyard in the provincial quarterfinal, losing 65-48. The Maple Creek team was down at the half, but fought hard to close the gap in the second half, but it was not enough to advance.
Congrats to these programs on advancing so far into the SHSAA provincial playoffs.
