The Swift Current hockey community lost one of it’s most influential members when Larry Johnson (1942-2026) passed away on October 13, 2026.
Johnson coached hockey from 1974 until 2015, coaching both male and female teams at numerous levels. He won four provincial titles as a coach, two at the Peewee level and two at the Bantam level.
He was the president of the U18 AAA Legionnaires for 15 years and was a founding board member of the Tournament of Champions. He later co-founded the Swift Current wheelchair hockey program with Bobbi-Jo Slusar.
Johnson was enshrined in the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame in his hometown in 2018.
The Southwest Booster wishes to extend its condolences to his family and friends.
