The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats finished with a 3-1 record at the Calgary Firestarter Tournament over the weekend.
The U18 AAA Wildcats defeated the Sherwood Park Kings 6-0 on Thursday, led by 21 saves from Kaleigha Irwin. Rookie Sadie Dutchak led the Wildcats with three goals. Reese Kampen and Chloe Kovacs both added a goal and an assist. Stevie Christiaens also scored. Piper Arntsen added two assists from the blueline. Emily McCleary, Laynee Rondeau, Jalaa Moore Jagow, Hayden Hilbig, Charlize Hillmer, and Ellie Weinbender all added assists.
The Wildcats followed up with a 3-1 win over the Westman Wildcats on Friday. Christiaens led the Wildcats with a goal and an assist, while Madison Hagen made 18 saves on 19 shots.
Iralyn Calkins and Hillmer also scored. Reese Kampen, Kennady Smith, Kapri Darby, and Weinbender also added assists.
The Wildcats added a 3-1 win over the St. Albert Slash when Irwin made 18 saves. Rondeau scored all three goals with assists from Hilbig, Calkins, and Weinbender.
Saturday, the Wildcats were eliminated in a 4-3 loss to the Calgary Fire. The Fire scored three power play goals on their way to the win.
Hagen took the loss with 27 saves on 31 shots over 52:02. Darby, Arntsen, and Rowyn Baptist all scored. Christiaens had two assists, while Calkins, and Carly Kempel added singles.
The Wildcats will open the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League regular season on Oct. 3-4 when they host the Prince Albert Raider Northern Bears.
