Kornfeld and Young win events in Weyburn

A pair of Southwest competitors won their events at the Souris Rivier Rodeo in Weyburn on July 3-4.

Val Marie’s Colt Kornfeld and Kade Christianson (Nanton) won Team Roping in 5.7 seconds for $2,662 at the Canadian Cowboys Association rodeo. Kyle’s Chad Hantelman and Jesse Hantelman tied for fourth in 6.6 seconds for $1,055. Shamrock’s Kevin Turner and Kent Drake (Moose Jaw) placed sixth in 7.1 seconds for $459.

Leader’s Josie Young added a win in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 16.17 seconds to collect $378. Hazenmore’s Tess Switzer was third in 16.29 seconds for $189.

Swift Current’s Trey Tuplin was second in Saddle Bronc with 74.5 points on Loaded Dice for $594. Cade Ferguson (Lamont County, AB) won the event with 75 points on Bay Star.

Eastend’s Joe Vansandt rode Wild Side for 65 points to place second in Novice Saddle Bronc for a $175 payday. Leland Robertson (Canwood) topped the event with 67 points on Dirty Fergie.

Mankota’s Shawn Williamson placed second in Tie Down Roping in 13.5 seconds for $712. Connor Box (Corning) won the event in 12.6 seconds.

Swift Current’s Dawson Danberg was third in Novice Bull Riding with a 67-point effort in Weyburn for $240. Gunner Armstrong (Shellbrook) won the event with 68 points.

Tess Switzer also placed fourth in Ladies Breakaway Roping in 2.4 seconds for $756. Kendall Fletcher (Luseland) won the event in 1.8 seconds.

Kiera Williamson finished seventh in Ladies Barrel Racing in 16.17 seconds for $360. Kaybree Zunti (Unity) won the event in 15.56 seconds.

The CCA continues its busy schedule with the Wood Mountain Stampede and the Delisle Rodeo this weekend.
