The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats lost the opening game of the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League championship series on Saturday.
The second-seeded Wildcats lost 6-1 to the top-seeded Battlefords Sharks in game one of the best-of-three series. Stevie Christiaens scored the only goal with assists from Piper Arntsen and Ella Schenher. Ashley Vezeau made 20 saves in the loss.
Aura Sembalerus made 20 saves in the win. The Sharks got goals from Sara McNabb, Anneka Aspaas, Sophie Brecht, Danika Dureau, Ainslee Deobald, and Kahli Keen.
Both teams finished zero-for-three on the power play.
The Wildcats will look to even the series on Wednesday in Swift Current.
