The Shaunavon Badgers men’s hockey team won a pair of championships this season.
They swept their way to a White Mud Hockey League championship with six straight wins.
The Badgers swept the fourth seeded Cabri Bulldogs in three games to open the playoffs and then took care of the second seeded Leader Flyers in three games, capped by a 5-4 overtime win on March 11 when Luke Hunter scored the championship winning goal.
Leader’s Kieran Christianson led the playoffs with 18 points in eight games, while Shaunavon’s Dyson Stevenson finished with 16 points in six post-season outings.
Stevenson led the regular season in scoring with 34 goals and 40 assists in 16 games and was named the Most Valuable Player.
Shaunavon’s Greg Coburn was named the Best Defenseman, while Maple Creek’s Chase Coward was named the Best Goalie.
The Badgers had finished 16-0-0 in the regular season with 144 goals for and only 39 against.
The Badgers also won six of seven games to win Senior C Provincials. They opened the playoffs with a 2-1 series win over the Assiniboia Rebels, followed by a two-game sweep of the Craik Warriors in round two.
The Badgers defeated the Rosetown Redwings 6-0 and 6-4 to clinch the provincial title. It marked the first provincial title in Shaunavon since winning Senior B in 2013.
