A pair of Southwest wrestlers hit the podium at the Saskatchewan Winter Games on Wednesday.
Pennant’s Payton Allin won gold in the 61 kg Female Division. She defeated Saskatoon’s Kathleen Piteau 10-0 in the final.
Swift Current’s Gabe Emperingham won bronze in the Male 55 kg Division. He defeated Saskatoon’s Jacob Wist 12-2 to claim bronze.
The Games, hosted by Flying Dust First Nation and the City of Meadow Lake, will flip the page to the second half with badminton, cross country skiing, curling, figure skating, futsal, judo, para-nordic skiing, target shooting, and weightlifting slated for action over the next three days.
Team South West sat seventh in the medal standings with two golds, two silvers, and two bronze medals in the first half. Saskatoon led the district team standings with 17 gold medals and 56 medals overall.
