The Swift Current Broncos tied the game on three occasions in the third period to earn a road point in a 6-5 shootout loss to the host Saskatoon Blades on Friday.
Trae Wilke scored directly from an offensive zone face-off with under two seconds remaining to force overtime. Zach Olsen had given the Blades a 5-4 lead with a power play goal with under eight seconds remaining in regulation.
Sawyer Dingman opened the shootout with a goal for the Broncos before their next four shooters were stopped. Hayden Harsanyi and Tyler Parr both scored for the Blades.
Archer Cooke made 28 saves for the Broncos. Ryley Budd made 17 saves for the Blades.
The Blades jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Elias Pul, Parr, and Hunter Laing. The Broncos fought back with goals from Brock Burch, Brendan Rudolph, and Trae Johnson. Kazden Mathies scored midway through the third period to put Saskatoon back into the lead, but Wilke scored a power play goal to tie the game again.
The Broncos improved to 13-35-3-1, while the Blades improved to 27-22-3-1.
The Broncos will host the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday.
Bronco Bits: the Broncos and Blades are both 2-1 in games decided in shootouts this season. Rudolph finished the game with one goal and two assists. The Calgary product has 11 points in 14 games since being acquired from the Seattle Thunderbirds.
