Schmiess finishes second at Moon Lake MJT event

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour was in Saskatoon at the Moon Lake Golf and Country Club on July 28-29.

Swift Current’s Matty Schmiess led the Southwest with a second-place finish in the Juvenile Boys Division. He got out to a good start with a one-under 71 on day one and then improved to a 70 on day two to finish two shots back of Saskatoon’s Ethan Hunter (74-65). Kyle’s Jace Wills placed 20th with identical rounds of 84.

Swift Current’s Ayden Ross tied for sixth in the Junior Boys Division. He had rounds of 78 and 72 to finish eight shots off the lead. Prince Albert’s Lincoln Rogers won the division by two shots with rounds of 70 and 72.

Swift Current’s Hailey Bollinger finished seventh in the 15-19 Girls Division. She carded rounds of 90 and 106.

Swift Current’s Jace Munro placed 18th in the Bantam Boys Division with rounds of 84 and 84. Shaunavon’s Jett Girodat was 23rd with rounds of 98 and 93.

The next MJT stop in Saskatchewan will be at Elk Ridge Resort in Waskesiu on August 9-10.

A Mini Tour event was also held at Moon Lake on Sunday. Herbert’s Jameson Fox was third in the Boys 8U Division with a 115.

Maple Creek’s Lachlan Williams placed seventh in the Boys 11-12 Division with a 104.
