Kevin Koe edged Brad Jacobs 7-6 in the championship game of the RBC Dominion Securities Western Showdown on Monday in Swift Current.
The Calgary skip scored four points in the fifth end to lead 6-3 before Jacobs scored two in the sixth and stole one in the seventh to tie the game. Koe made a tough shot with his final rock to win his second Western Showdown in the event’s four-year run.
Koe played nine games over three days after losing 9-8 to Toronto’s John Epping to open the event. He rattled off wins over Saskatchewan’s Steve Laycock, Edmonton’s Evan Van Amsterdam, and Saskatoon’s Dustin Kaltoff, before being bounced from the B event with a 7-5 loss to Saskatoon’s Ryan Kleiter.
They rebounded with a 7-6 win over Minnesota’s Daniel Casper to advance to the championship event.
Koe then defeated Epping 6-3 in the semi-final and New Westminster, BC’s Brent Pierce 3-2 in the semi-final.
