Vavra helps Huskies to comeback win over Thunderbirds

Swift Current’s Rhett Vavra played a pivotal role in helping the University of Saskatchewan Huskies upset the host University of British Columbia Thunderbirds in the Canada West Football semi-final on Saturday.

The fourth-year receiver led the Huskies with 13 catches for 187 yards as they erased a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter for a 38-33 win to advance to the Hardy Cup.

Vavra also scored on a two-yard reception in the second quarter to give the Huskies a brief 10-7 lead.

The 87th Hardy Cup will be played on Saturday afternoon against the University of Regina Rams at Griffiths Stadium in Nutrien Park in Saskatoon.
