The Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats will play for gold at the U18 AAA Female Canadian Crown tournament in Edmonton.
Friday, the Wildcats opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Ice. Jade Thompson, Dior Stringer, Reece Hawkins, and Stevie Christiaens all scored. Kara Bergen assisted on three goals, while Emily McCleary and Rayna Hennie added single helpers. Jordyn Ottenbreit earned the win with 29 saves.
The Wildcats added a 4-3 win over the North Shore Warriors that evening. Christiaens, Raela Packet, Alexa Kobley, and Kyla Benjamin all scored.
Thompson had two assists, while Packet, Benjamin, Kobley, Hennie, and Madden Rublee all added singles. Ashley Vezeau made 29 saves in the win.
Saturday, the Wildcats suffered their first setback with a 3-2 loss to the Sherwood Park Reign. Charlize Hillmer and Thompson scored. Rublee and Bergen had assists. Vezeau took the loss with 29 saves.
They recovered on Sunday to defeat the host Northern Alberta Xtreme 3-1 on goals from Bergen, Thompson, and Benjamin. Rublee, Stringer, Taylre Becker, Benjamin, and Kobley all added assists. Ottenbreit made 33 saves in the semi-final win.
The Wildcats will face the Prince Albert Bears in the championship game on Monday.
