The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires scored 19 goals in two Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League preseason games against the Notre Dame Hounds over the weekend.
Saturday, the Legionnaires defeated the Hounds 10-1 at Duncan McNeill Arena in Wilcox. Veteran Jace Egland led the Legionnaires with three goals and three assists, followed by two goals and three assists from Wesley Olson, and one goal and three assists from Connor Rieger.
Nate Silbernagel added one goal and two assists, while Juris Busse had a two-assist outing. Kasey Gleim, Carter Schmidt, and Jackson Squires also scored. Riley Schmiess chipped in one assist.
Tate Leshures earned the win with 26 saves on 27 shots.
Thomas McPhee scored the only goal for the Hounds. Jack Hunter took the loss with 10 saves on 14 shots over 20 minutes. Josh Blair made 18 saves on 24 shots over the final 40 minutes.
Sunday, the Legionnaires followed up with a 9-1 win on home ice. Egland added two goals and three assists to his totals, while Olson registered two goals and three assists. Gleim and Sam Kirwan both scored twice, while Mason Fauser and Silbernagel added singles. Will Kirwan and Rieger both had two-assist outings.
Schmiess, Gavin Folden, Fynn Harasymchuk, Nickason, and Squires all added assists. Evan Hutcheon earned the win with 30 saves.
The Legionnaires will wrap up the preseason with two games against the Moose Jaw Warriors this weekend. They visit the Warriors on Friday and then host the Warriors on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the InnovationPlex.
