Tim and Karen Cox are Swift Current’s newest lottery winners, after a $100,000 win on the June 15 EXTRA draw took them by surprise!
The couple had been eagerly watching to see if someone had won on the record-breaking $66 million LOTTO 6/49 June 15 draw and hadn’t checked right away to see if the EXTRA they added to their ticket was a winner.
“We were joking about the $66 million LOTTO 6/49 win going to Calgary and said, ‘At least someone in Saskatchewan won $100,000,’” Karen laughed. “We didn’t realize it was us!”
“I was sitting on the couch and scanned the ticket on my app,” explained Tim. “The $100,000 came up so I went to show Karen and asked, ‘Just so I know I’m not going crazy, what does that say?’”
The couple’s showed the phone to their son and he shared their surprise.
“His eyes got so big and then there was lots of hugging,” Karen said. “We were shocked… Stunned really.”
The Swift Current locals said the win brings them much closer to retirement.
“It feels really good,” said Tim. “Kind of surreal!”
The Cox couple purchased their winning LOTTO 6/49 and EXTRA ticket at Canadian Tire Gas Bar located at 105 North Service Rd. E in Swift Current. They won their prize by matching the last six numbers selected in the June 15 EXTRA draw: 6208703.
