The 17U Female Junior SunDogs volleyball team placed second out of 10 teams at the QCVC Elite’s home tournament in Regina on Jan. 13-14.
They won their opening match 25-18 and 26-24 over QCVC Elite. Their second match of day saw the Sundogs defeat Oxbow 25-18 and 25-17.
The girls were ready to play Saturday morning and showed it in their win over Southeast Vipers Green (25-6, 25-13). The deciding match against the Westman from Brandon for first place in the pool ended in a split (25-20, 23-25). That was enough for the Sundogs to end up in first place in Pool A.
The team went up against Moose Jaw’s Golden Tickets in the quarter-finals and won 25-4 and 25-16. With that win, the girls came up against Oxbow again. A similar outcome of 25-14 and 25-19 saw the Sundogs heading to the final.
The U17 SunDogs had a hard-fought battle against the Regina Cougars in the championship match with great digs, hits and blocks that ended in a loss (26-28, 17-25) to take home second place.
The SunDogs have a weekend off before heading to Warman for Saskcup #1 on January 28-29.
