Five members of the Swift Current Innovation Credit Union U18 AAA Wildcats will be in Saskatoon this weekend trying to crack the U18 Team Saskatchewan roster that will compete in the Canada Winter Games.
Vying for spots will be first year Wildcat goalie Paige Fischer. Fischer, from Rosetown, has two wins, zero losses, and one tie in her three starts this preseason. She has a 1.67 goals against average and a save percentage of 0.943.
On defence, third year Wildcat Caitlyn Perlinger, a product of Kindersley, will be attempting to make the team for the second season in a row. In seven preseason games this year she has tallied two goals and three assists.
Three Wildcat players will be trying to earn forward spots. Jerzey Watteyne, a left winger from Lafleche, who has been off to a blistering pace offensively with 11 goals and five assists in her first seven games as she tries to crack the U18 roster for the first time.
Gull Lake product, Sadie Keller, who has made the move from right wing to centre this year, has also had a strong offensive start, scoring four goals and adding nine assists. She hopes to make the U18 Team for the first time.
Ella Wingert, a Rosetown native who plays centre, is also looking to be a part of the U18 Team SK for the first time and tallied one goal and one assist to start the season.
The U18 Team Sask will be taking part in a tournament in Saskatoon featuring the U18 Team Manitoba, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, the University of Regina Cougars, Mount Royal University Cougars, the University of Alberta Pandas, and the Barrie Sharks.
