There were four Southwest event winners at the Chacachas Rodeo in Whitewood on August 19-20.
Val Marie’s Colt Kornfeld with Kade Christianson (Nanton, AB) combined to win Team Roping in 4.8 seconds for $2,531. Shamrock’s Kevin Turner was close behind in second in 6.0 seconds for $2,095 with Weyburn’s Tyler Kmita. Hazenmore’s Ben Switzer worked with Colter Dunn (Ogema) to place third in 6.7 seconds for $1,658. Kyle’s Jesse Hantelman was sixth with Kobe Kmita (Weyburn) in 10.7 seconds for $436.
Maple Creek’s Blake Link had the only qualified ride at the Canadian Cowboys Association rodeo to win Bareback with a 71-point effort on Cowboy Downhill for $918. Link was second in the Bareback standings behind Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram.
Maple Creek’s Adam Gilchrist won Saddle Bronc with 74 points on Bubbles for $581. Gilchrist led the CCA All Around standings with $9,981 in earnings this season. He was second in the Saddle Bronc standings behind only Tyler Winters.
Mankota’s Kiera Williamson capped a strong family weekend with a win in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 14.41 seconds for $288. She sat second in the event season standings behind Maple Creek’s Kate Beierbach.
Kincaid’s Jud Colliness was second in Bull Riding with 81 points on Henry William French for a $757 payday. Grady Young (Tyvan) rode Diamond Joe for 84 points for the win.
Eastend’s Joe Vansandt was also second in Junior Steer Riding with a 72-point ride for $270. Beau Armtstrong (Shelbrook) won the event with a 74-point ride.
Mankota’s Shawn Williamson was third in Tie Down Roping in 9.8 seconds for $504. Kevin Dunham (Souris, MB) won the event in 9.5 seconds.
Eastend’s Haley Glasrud was third in 14.38 seconds for $971 in Ladies Barrel Racing.
Mankota’s April Williamson added a fourth-place finish in 14.4 seconds for $800. Clarissa Neufeld (Crystal City, MB) won the event in 14.22 seconds.
The next CCA event will be the Ashern Rodeo on Sept. 3-4.
