Swift Current’s Aleah Nickel is a Canada West champion. The decorated wrestler finally has university titles to add to her resume after competing at the Canada West Wrestling Championship in Saskatoon over the weekend.
Nickel won the 63kg women’s division to help the University of Alberta Pandas win the women’s team title by seven points over the host University of Saskatchewan Huskies. The Golden Bears also won the men’s title, marking the third time in the past 10 years the teams have swept both Canada West titles.
Nickel defeated the Huskies Emma Parker by fall after 5:55. She lost a 5-3 decision to the Calgary Dinos Miki Rowbottom.
U Sport Nationals have been cancelled, but Nickel will compete at Canadian Nationals in May.
