Shaunavon’s own Hunter Brothers have received a quartet of nominations for the 2017 Saskatchewan Country Music Awards.
They picked up nominations as the Fan’s Choice Entertainer of the Year, the Group of the Year plus the Emerging Artist Award. Their song El Dorado has been nominated in the Single of the Year category. Luke Hunter picked up an individual nomination in All Star Band (Bass).
The Hunter Brothers will be sharing their talents on the Telemiracle stage on March 4 and 5 as they were selected to join the cast for Telemiracle 41 in Saskatoon.
There is a strong Southwest flavour to the Roots Album of the Year category. Creek City is nominated for their debut Chronicles, and Glenda Switzer is nominated for her debut A Long Time Comin’. Switzer has also been nominated in the All Star Band (Keys) category.
Mark Penner is one of six nominees in the Record Producer category, and his South Hill Studio is nominated for Recording Studio.
Becky Lynn of Swift Current’s seven-song EP Fragile is nominated in the Album of the Year category.
The 28th annual SCMA Awards Weekend will be hosted in Saskatoon on March 31 to April 2.
Also in country music news, the tandem of Kacy & Clayton from Glentworth received a prestigious 2017 JUNO nomination in the Contemporary Roots Album of the Year category for their release Strange Country. The Juno Awards will be presented on April 2 in Ottawa.
