The Swift Current Municipal RCMP have issued a statement advising the community of an increased number of fraud complaints over the past weeks.
The RCMP are currently investigating a series of fraud complaints in Swift Current in response to numerous complaints from victims of fraud.
“There are a wide variety of scammers out there to take away your cash. Education is the only way to fight them,” the RCMP stated in a news release. “When it comes to your money be extremely cautious on how you invest and place your trust in any organization on the internet without doing your homework first. Check as many sources you can to ensure the money you send out is going to the right place and to the right organization. The second you send your money from your account by way of electronic transfer or wire transfer it is no longer the banks responsibility.”
In addition to reminding residents to always be vigilant when it comes to their finances, the RCMP remind the public to report any suspicious fraudulent behaviour to the Municipal Detachment at 306-778-4870.
