Saskatchewan was back into record setting heat on Monday, with Environment Canada reporting nine new maximum temperatures established on June 14.
The heat warning in effect for much of the province was responsible for breaking an 89 year old weather record in the Cypress Hills area. The temperature in the Cypress Hills rose to 29.9 Celsius, breaking the former mark of 28.9 set in 1932 and ranking as the hottest June 14 since weather record have been kept since 1918.
Also in the region, Lucky Lake reached 31.7 Celsius to break the former mark of 29.7 Celsius set in 2009, while Kindersley reached 34.1 Celsius to surpass the previous mark of 32.9 set in 1987.
Other temperature records were set in Buffalo Narrows (new record 30.0, old record 29.0 in 1984); Meadow Lake (new record 32.4, old record 30.5 set in 2009); Rockglen (new record 29.2, old record 27.6 set in 1995); Stony Rapids (new record 30.3, old record 29.5 set in 2006); Uranium City (new record 30.5, old record 28.9 set in 2006); and Waskesiu Lake (new record 29.7, old record 29.2 set in 2009).
The newest records are the third time in June that record setting heat has been recorded in the province, with the province also recording new hot weather temperatures back on June 2 and 3.
However, neighbouring Alberta received the hottest of the daytime temperatures on June 14, with 24 new weather records set and Medicine Hat recording a new record high of 37.6 Celsius (just shy of 100 Fahrenheit).
Heat Warnings remain in effect for the western portion of Saskatchewan today, with Environment Canada forecasting temperatures in the high 30s before more seasonal temperatures return for Wednesday.
