The extreme heat and rapidly drying conditions across the Southwest have resulted in a large number of Rural Municipalities instituting fire bans.
According to a list of municipal fire bans listed on the Saskatchewan government website, well over half of the current 39 fire bans in place in Saskatchewan are in effect across the Southwest.
The R.M. of Swift Current #137 was the latest RM to issue a fire ban effectively immediately on all open fires, including fire pits and burning barrels. They were advising everyone to exercise extreme caution as the dry weather has caused a high risk for fire.
Additionally, the Town of Kyle, Town of Eastend, the Village of Stewart Valley and the Village of Vanguard also have fire bans in place.
