The Swift Current Comp. Colts won a medal for a fourth straight year at SHSAA 5A Boys Volleyball Provincials in Regina on Saturday.
The Colts won bronze to follow up on last year’s silver medal. They had won bronze in 2016, before winning a provincial title in 2017.
The Colts rattled off three consecutive three-set wins on Friday as they defeated Saskatoon St. Joseph (19-25, 25-13, 15-10), Regina Winston Knoll (25-18, 23-25, 15-10), and Regina LeBoldus (25-17, 18-25, 15-9).
Saturday, the Colts concluded the round robin with a loss to Meadow Lake (23-25,15-25) to place second in their pool with a 3-1 record.
The Colts defeated Weyburn (25-19, 29-27) in straight sets in the quarter-final, before losing in straight sets to Prince Albert St. Mary (18-25, 22-25). They rebounded to defeat Balgonie Greenall in straight sets (25-23, 25-19) to clinch bronze.
The Swift Current Comp. Ardens won their first three matches at SHSAA 5A Volleyball Provincials in Weyburn before losing their final two matches to bow out in the quarter-final.
They opened the tournament with a win over the host Weyburn Eagles (25-18, 25-23). They followed up with a three-set win over Regina Miller (24-26, 25-16, 15-7). The Ardens finished off the unbeaten day with a three-set win over the Prince Albert Carlton (25-14, 20-25, 15-10).
Saturday, the Ardens concluded the round robin with a loss to the Saskatoon St. Joseph Guardians (18-25, 18-25) to place second with a 3-1 record.
They met third seeded North Battleford in the quarter-final and had their season ended with 25-7 and 25-14 losses.
Regina Campbell defeated Saskatoon Bishop Mahoney to win the provincial title.
