The Swift Current Broncos have added another hometown player to their blueline corps. They traded a 2022 fifth round draft pick to the Spokane Chiefs on Thursday for Swift Current’s Hendrik de Klerk.

de Klerk has risen steadily through the Swift Current Minor Hockey system, including a Bantam AA Provincial championship in 2017. He finished second in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League scoring amongst defenseman last season with 37 points in 44 games for the Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires while being named a SMAAAHL Second-Team All-Star.

The 5’11’’ defenseman was originally drafted by Spokane in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft and signed last March.

The Broncos will open the preseason against the Moose Jaw Warriors in Regina this afternoon.
