The Swift Current 57’s were eliminated from the Western Canada Baseball League playoffs in a 2-0 loss to the Regina Red Sox on Wednesday.
Red Sox ace Michael Batten allowed only four hits during the complete game shutout as he struck out 13 and did not walk a batter.
Tyler Murphy gave the 57’s a chance to win as held the Red Sox to four hits and four walks while striking out eight over seven innings. Murphy allowed two runs, but only one was earned as the 57’s made three errors. Closer Garrett Alexander added a scoreless inning in relief.
The 57’s had finished second in the Eastern Division with a 38-18 record, three wins behind Regina.
The WCBL championship series will feature the top two teams from the regular season as the Red Sox (41-15) battle the Okotoks Dawgs (40-15) beginning tonight in Regina.
