57’s headed to WCBL All-Star Game

Six members of the Swift Current 57’s will represent the team at the first annual Western Canadian Baseball League All-Star Game in Edmonton on July 7.

Leading the way will be the catching duo of Alex Stinnett and Tanner Holen.
Stinnett is currently seventh in league batting with a .373 average. The Meza, AZ product has 22 hits and 11 walks in 15 games this season for a .479 on-base percentage, second among all qualified players in the league. The Cochise College sophomore has also scored 18 runs and has brought home nine runs with seven doubles and three home runs.

Holen comprises the other half of a productive catching duo. The Manhattan, KS native has a .321 average and .404 on-base percentage in 21 games this season. Holen has scored eight runs to go along with 18 RBI while knocking out four doubles, two triples, and three home runs.

The only other positional player selected was first baseman Jack Large. Large is tied for fifth in the league with six home runs and is fifth with 26 RBI’s in 24 appearances. The Modesto, CA product has a .315 average and a .390 on-base percentage as well.

Starting pitcher Zachary Patterson will also suit up for the Eastern Division in the All-Star Game. Patterson is second in the WCBL with 43 strikeouts in 31.1 innings pitched. The Cabot, AR product boasts a 2-1 record with a 2.87 earned run average in six appearances this season.

Rounding out the 57’s all-stars will be reliever Garrett Alexander. Alexander has a 2-0 record and four saves during eight relief appearances this season. The 6’6’’ righty from Spring, TX has a 1.42 ERA with 25 strikeouts in only 19 innings pitched.

57’s assistant coach Ruben Rodriguez will be on the staff of Weyburn Beavers’ head coach Phil Curtis.

The 57’s (16-10) will be in Melville on Thursday for parts of two games as they resume a rained out contest before playing their regular scheduled game.
