Southwest competitors were all over the leaderboard at a Canadian Cowboys Association rodeo in Mankota on May 24-25.
Shawn Williamson won the opening night of his hometown rodeo in Tie Down Roping in 8.5 seconds for $576.
Val Marie’s Colt Kornfeld got the win his backyard as he rode Ram Boy for 76 points to top Bull Riding and pocketed $887.
Waldeck’s Tee McLeod finished fourth in the Steer Wrestling Final in 8.6 seconds for $54, which also moved him into third in the Average.
Night one of Ladies Barrel Racing saw two Southwest cowgirls in the top six. Eastend’s Bailee Humphrey was second in 16.53 seconds for $682. Maple Creek’s Logan Resch was fifth in 16.72 seconds for $255.
Four Southwesterners were in the top six in the Final. Cadillac’s Brooke Lang was second in 16.690 seconds. Resch was third in 16.7 seconds for $270. Humphrey tied for fifth with Maple Creek’s Kristy Gilchrist as they each finished in 16.89 seconds for $99.
Resch and Humphrey finished tied for second in Average, while Lang was fourth and Gilchrist was sixth.
Maple Creek’s Cassidy Gordon placed second in Go-Round 1 of Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 16.92 seconds for $172. She finished third in Average in 34.17 seconds.
Maple Creek’s James Perrin was second in Junior Steer Riding with a 70-point effort for $367.
Tee McLeod worked with Trey Gallais (Sundre, AB) to tie for fifth in Go-Round 1 of Team Roping in 6.3 seconds for $312.
The CCA will hold rodeos in Macgregor, MB and Unity this weekend.
