The Swift Current 57’s begin a new season in the newly rebranded Western Canadian Baseball League on Wednesday when they host the Weyburn Beavers at 7 p.m. at Mitchell Field.

The 57’s finished second in the Eastern Division of the Western Major Baseball League last season with a 28-20 record before being eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs.

The 2019 roster currently lists four returning players from last year’s team, including two pitchers. Isiah Campa (El Paso, TX) returns to the mound after his freshman season at Cochise College. Biggar’s Garrett Hawkins will look to build on a strong 2018 in Swift Current as well. The 6’5” righty was 4-0 last season with a 3.13 ERA.

Infielder Kiel Krumwiede (Glasgow, MT) is back for a third season in Swift Current and Saskatoon’s Jared Binsfield returns in the outfield after playing for the University of Sioux Falls. He hit .282 in 28 games last season.

The 57’s are at home Thursday to host the Moose Jaw Miller Express. They travel to visit Moose Jaw on Friday and the Weyburn Beavers on Saturday. The 57’s are also at home on Sunday against Weyburn before visiting Yorkton on Tuesday. They will conclude the week by hosting Moose Jaw again on Wednesday.
