Joseph sets new Long Jump record at Tri Province meet

Four Southwest athletes were on the track at the 2018 Western Canadian Tri Province Championship in Sherwood Park, AB on July.

Leading the way was Swift Current’s Scott Joseph with a new record in the U18 Boys Long Jump. Joseph sailed 6.63 meters to win gold and eclipse the previous record of 6.24 meters that was set in 2014.

The Colts standout also won silver in the Triple Jump when he traveled 14.00 metres, which also passed the previous meet record. Joseph placed fifth in the 200 Metre Dash in 23.36 seconds. He also was sixth in the 100 Metre Dash in the preliminaries but did not start the final.

Joseph also ran the 4×100 Metre Relay as Team Sask C was seventh in 46.54 seconds.

Leader’s Jackson Sitter also had a strong showing in the U18 Boys division as Team Sask won the U18 team title. Jackson Sitter was fifth in Triple Jump with a top jump of 12.33 metres. He also placed sixth in Long Jump at 5.99 metres.

Leader’s Reed Sitter represented Saskatchewan in three U16 Boys events. His top showing was seventh in Javelin at 27.96 metres. He also placed 10th in Shot Put with a 10.68-metre heave. Reed Sitter was 10th in Discus as well when his best throw travelled 25.21 metres.

Swift Current’s Kalea Sauder also helped the U18 Saskatchewan team to a team title. Her top result was in the 4×100 Metre Relay where Team Sask C placed fifth in 54.18 seconds.

Sauder placed seventh in the U18 Long Jump with a top jump of 5.05 metres. She also placed 12th in the 100 Metre Dash in 13.71 seconds and in the 100 Metre Hurdles in 17.47 seconds.
