Southwest dominates Sandhills Rodeo

Southwest competitors were dominant with six event wins at the Sandhills Rodeo in Lancer on June 8-10.

Leading the way at the Canadian Cowboys Association event was Swift Current’s Timothy Costello, who won Saddle Bronc with 76 points on Aimes No Change for $585.

Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram also won his event in Lancer. He rode Sandhill City for 78 points to top Bareback for $792.

Hazenmore’s Chanse Switzer was the only cowboy to last eight seconds in Bull Riding for a $2,430 payday in top spot.

Waldeck’s Tuftin and Tyce McLeod topped the Team Roping field in 6.3 seconds to pocket $2,152 in Lancer.

Three Junior Girls Barrel Racing cowgirls from Maple Creek placed in the top four of the event. Janae Wilson won the event in 15.16 seconds for $323. Lily Wilson was right behind her in second in 15.76 seconds for $267. Logan Resch followed in fourth spot in 15.83 seconds for $156.

The Southwest also swept the top two spots in Novice Bareback. Kyle’s Kade Cheney won the event with 72 points for $266 and Maple Creek’s Blake Link followed in second with 60 points for $202.

The Southwest also had two cowboys in the money in Tie Down Roping. Lucky Lake’s Tyler Getz placed second in 9.5 seconds for $712. Tuftin McLeod was fifth in 14.2 seconds for $267.

Maple Creek’s James Perrin tied for third in Junior Steer Riding when he totaled 68 points for $79.

Swift Current’s Dusty Caragata added a fourth-place finish in Steer Wrestling in 6.3 seconds for $516.

Two cowgirls were in the top eight in the Ladies Barrel Racing event. Eastend’s Bailee Humphrey was fourth in 15.26 seconds for $919. Mankota’s Karlie Cowie placed eighth in 15.41 seconds for $131.
