Kaden Elder and Matteo Gennaro each scored twice as the Swift Current Broncos defeated the visiting Regina Pats 4-2 Saturday.

The Broncos, bolstered by the return of one of their three World Junior players, jumped ahead with goals 2:08 apart in the first period from Kaden Elder and Matteo Gennaro. Both were wrist shots from the top of the face-off circle that somehow evaded Tyler Brown, who was pulled after allowing two goals on 11 shot over 11:45.

The Broncos were punished for a pedestrian middle stanza when Bryan Lockner and Nick Henry scored for the Pats for a 2-2 score heading into the final frame.

Gennaro notched the game winner with 4:45 remaining in regulation with a perfect shot to the top corner from the high slot. The overage forward now has 26 points in 16 games with the Broncos and five goals and two assists over his last three games.

Elder added an insurance marker with 1:29 left after Beck Malenstyn created a turnover and fed him in the slot for his 11th goal of the campaign.

Broncos captain Glenn Gawdin was hot on the trail of Regina’s Matt Bradley Saturday.

Logan Flodell earned the win with 33 saves to improve to 24-8-3-0. Jacob Wasserman played the final 48:15 and stopped 15 of 17 shots in the loss.

The Broncos now have points in each of their last three games as they improved to 28-10-3-0, while Regina dropped to 20-19-3-0 as their four-game winning streak was halted.

The Broncos will be back on the ice Sunday for their third game in as many days when the Red Deer Rebels visit for a 4 p.m. puck drop.
