Tyler Steenbergen is only one step away in his quest to represent Canada at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship. The Swift Current Broncos forward survived the first round of cuts at Hockey Canada’s Selection Camp in St. Catherines, ON.

Hockey Canada announced six cuts on Thursday evening and, unfortunately, Shaunavon’s Kole Lind was amongst them. The 19-year-old forward has 36 points in 23 games with the Kelowna Rockets this season after being selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2017 NHL Draft.

Steenbergen, who leads the WHL with 35 goals in 27 games this season, is now one of 27 players left on the roster heading into Friday’s exhibition game against Denmark. Canada is expected to trim their roster to 22 players following the game Friday.

Canada will open the World Junior Championship in Buffalo on Dec. 26 against Finland.
