The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats opened the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League regular season with a two-game sweep of the host Weyburn Wings.
Saturday, the Wildcats outshot the Wings 14-1 for a 3-0 first-period lead and never looked back on their way to a 7-0 win. Carissa Hogan paced the attack with two goals and one assist, while Taylor Lind scored twice and Taylor Kirwan had a goal and an assist. Toni Theaker and Layne Hryhoriw also scored, while Sara Kendall, Brooklyn Colborn, Courtney Funk, and Baylee Kirwan added assists. Veteran Harper Davey opened her second season with 11 saves for the shutout.
Sunday, the Wildcats followed up with a 5-2 win after falling behind 2-1 in the first period before scoring four unanswered goals over the final 38:47. Taylor Kirwan added a goal and two assists to her total to finish the weekend in the league scoring lead, while Colborn also had a goal and an assist. Hogan, Trista Labarowski, and Baylee Kirwan also scored, while Crystal Wale, and Kenedee Klevgaard added assists. Rookie Amaya Giraudier got the win with eight saves on 10 shots.
The Wildcats are off next weekend before hosting the Regina Rebels for two games the following weekend.
