Bertram tops Bareback at Frontier Days Rodeo

Some familiar faces were among the top performers at the Frontier Days Rodeo in Swift Current on June 29 – July 1.

Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram rode Wide Corner for 79 points to top Bareback in Swift Current for a $913 payday. Consul’s Monty Koopman was fourth with 75 points on Way North for $441. Maple Creek’s Jason Hofer followed in sixth with 69 points on City Storm for $157.

A couple of Southwest youngsters highlighted the Steer Wrestling field. Maple Creek’s Brady Resch tied for top spot in 4.8 seconds for $1,166. Waldeck’s Tee McLeod placed fifth in 5.0 seconds for $437.

Taryn Parsonage led the Southwest cowgirls with a second-place finish in Ladies Barrel Racing in 16.93 seconds for $1,890. Mankota’s April Williamson tied for eighth in 17.01 seconds for $63.

Frontier Days was a welcome stop for Southwest Saddle Bronc riders with three of the top six coming from the area. Maple Creek’s Adam Gilchrist continued to enjoy performing in Swift Current with a second-place, 82-point ride on Mackies Carbon Copy for $950. Mike Gordon, also from Maple Creek, was right behind him in third spot with 81 points aboard Intact for $752. Piapot’s Casey Bertram was sixth with 76 points on Hill Top for $198.

The Tie Down Roping field was filled with familiar faces and the local cowboys did not disappoint the hometown crowd. Waldeck’s Tyce McLeod placed second in 8.5 seconds for $1,080. Val Marie’s Wyatt Hayes finished fourth in 9.2 seconds for $756. Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer thrilled a huge crowd on Saturday to finish in fifth spot in 9.3 seconds for $594. Lucky Lake’s Tyler Getz finished seventh in 10.7 seconds for $270.

Swift Current’s Chad Feil and Maple Creek’s Christian Brost were the only locals to find the money in Team Roping when they placed eighth in 7.2 seconds for $277.

The CCA is back in the area this weekend for the Wood Mountain Stampede on July 7-9.
