Colts and Ardens host home badminton tournament

SUBMITTED PHOTO THE SCCHS Colts and Ardens hosted their home badminton tournament on March 29.

The Swift Current Comprehensive High School Colts and Ardens badminton team hosted 10 other schools on Saturday and came up with two gold medal performances.

The grade nine team of Reece Lantican and Jodi Switzer won gold in Girls Doubles on home court. They topped the SCCHS team of Makayla Gonzales and Amalia Letkeman in the final (21-17, 21-18). Ava Kendall and Keira Walters (Ponteix) won bronze in Girls Doubles.

The team of Saryn Allan and Tate Unger won gold in Mixed Doubles for the home team as well. They topped Maple Creek’s Ayden Buss and Savannah Frey in three sets in the final (21-10, 14-21, 21-17). Swift Current’s Lauren Hanson and Jacob Derksen captured bronze.

Maple Creek topped both of the singles divisions. Darrel Cuyugan won gold in Boys Singles. He defeated the Colts’ Michael Liu (21-11, 21-17) in the final after winning all six games in the round robin and semi-final. Griffin White (Rosetown) won bronze.

Sierra Frey won gold for Maple Creek in Girls Singles without a loss in seven games. She defeated Rosetown’s Taya Green (21-16, 21-11) in the gold medal game. The Ardens’ Tinara Bowditch won bronze in Girls Singles.

The Leader team of David Cocks and Karter Ries won gold in Boys Doubles. They  defeated Hazlet’s Tristan Bang and Nolan Kirk in the final (21-11, 21-14). The grade nine duo of Owen Regier and Isaac Ferguson won bronze for the Colts in Boys Doubles.
