Silzer named SJHL Sask Player of the Year

Swift Current’s Rylan Silzer was named the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Sask Player of the Year.

The 6’4’’ defenseman registered 13 goals and 29 assists in 49 games with the La Ronge Ice Wolves this season, his third in the SJHL. He was also nominated for the league’s Top Defenseman award.

He served as the Ice Wolves captain this season and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, Top Defenseman, and Best Playmaker.

Silzer came up through the Swift Current Minor Hockey system before playing his final season with the Warman U18 AAA Wildcats in 2021-22.

The Ice Wolves missed the playoffs with a 24-27-3-2 record in third spot in the Sherwood Division.

Former Swift Current Broncos goaltender Matthew Kieper was named the league’s Most Valuable Player and Goalie of the Year. He finished the season with a 23-2-1-1 record while leading the league with a 1.80 goals against average and a .935 save percentage for the Flin Flon Bombers.
