The Swift Current Broncos scored three power play goals to defeat the Regina Pats 7-5 on Saturday. Hunter Mayo had five points, while Rylan Gould and Luke Mistelbacher both had four-point outings as the Broncos snapped a three-game losing streak.
The two teams combined for five goals in the first period as the Broncos emerged with a 3-2 lead. Ashton Brown scored for the Pats first. The Broncos got goals from Gould, Marek Rocak, and Mayo 1:24 apart to take a 3-1 lead. Regina closed the period with a Cade Brown goal.
The Broncos added to the lead early in the second period with Mayo’s 19th goal of the season. Regina fought back with two goals from Zach Pantelakis for a 4-4 tie after 40 minutes.
The Broncos had two lengthy two-man-advantages early in the third period and capitalized with goals from Gould and Dezainde. Eastend’s Jace Egland replied for the Pats, but Gould completed his hat trick with a nifty backhand goal to close the scoring.
Reid Dyck made 25 saves to improve to 21-20-1-1.
Kelton Pyne fell to 12-21-4-3 with 36 saves on 43 shots.
Swift Current improved to 34-28-1-2 with three games remaining in the regular season, while Regina fell to 15-41-5-3.
The two teams will renew acquaintances on Tuesday in Regina.
