Legionnaires open series with double OT win

Swift Current Home Hardware U18 AAA Legionnaires

Sam Kirwan scored 3:44 into the second overtime to lift the Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires to a 2-1 win over the host Moose Jaw Warriors in game one of the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League semi-final series.

Trae Peterson had scored in the second period for the Legionnaires before Brenna Brown tied the game for the Warriors in the third period.

Peterson and Will Kirwan had assists on the game winner. Berney Weston led the Legionnaires to victory with 49 saves on 50 shots. He is now 4-2 in the playoffs with a 1.77 goals against average and a .950 save percentage.

Luke McKechnie took the loss with 26 saves.

Game two of the best-of-five series will be Sunday at 6:45 p.m. in Swift Current.
