Broncos top Blades in shootout

The Swift Current Broncos salvaged their week with a 6-5 shootout win over the visiting Saskatoon Blades on Saturday.

Carlin Dezainde led the Broncos with a hat trick, Reid Dyck stopped nine Blades in the shootout, and Connor Gabriel scored the shootout winner on the 20th attempt of the night.

The two teams combined for seven goals in the opening frame with the Blades leading 4-3 when the dust had settled. Hunter Laing, Tanner Scott, Hayden Harsanyi, and Grayden Siepmann all connected for the visitors. Clarke Caswell, Dezainde, and Luke Mistelbacher replied for the home team.

The Broncos tied the game again in the second period on their first power play opportunity when Dezainde struck for his second goal of the game.

The Broncos fell behind again 43 seconds into the third period on a David Lewandowski goal. Dezainde completed his hat trick minutes later with a rebound goal on the rush, his 29th of the season.

Reid Dyck improved to 18-17-1-0 with 21 saves over 65 minutes.
Ethan McCallum made 24 saves to fall to 7-6-0-3.

The Broncos improved to 28-22-1-1 to remain eighth in the Eastern Conference. Saskatoon dropped to 28-17-3-4.

The Broncos will host the Calgary Hitmen on Monday.
