Broncos enter break on winning note

The Swift Current Broncos will head into the holiday break on a winning note after defeating the host Red Deer Rebels 5-4 on Tuesday.

The Broncos fell behind by a pair of goals early before scoring five consecutive goals and then held on for the win to snap a two-game slide. 

Beckett Hamilton and Trae Wilke scored 1:08 apart for the Rebels. The Broncos quickly replied with a Jaxen Gauchier goal and then goals 1:20 apart from Luke Mistelbacher and Connor Gabriel to lead 3-2 after one period. 

The Broncos took control of the game in the second period with a power play goal from Clarke Caswelll and a Parker Rondeau goal 54 seconds later.

Shaunavon’s Kalan Lind scored twice in the third period for the Rebels to close the scoring.

Joey Rocha improved to 7-2-0-1 with 29 saves. 

Chase Wutzke fell to 12-11-0-1 with 30 saves for Red Deer. 

The Broncos improved to 17-13-0-1 to move into fifth in the Eastern Conference. Red Deer fell to 15-14-1-2 in ninth spot, but only two points back of the Broncos.

The Broncos will return to action on Dec. 27 when they visit the Prince Albert Raiders.
