U18 AAA Wildcats compete at Mandi Schwartz Memorial Invitational

The Swift Current U18 AAA Innovation Credit Union Wildcats won three of five games at the Mandi Schwartz Memorial Invitational over the weekend.

The Wildcats opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over Shawnigan Lake on Thursday in Milestone.

Jordyn Ottenbreit made 41 saves in the shutout and Stevie Christiaens scored the only goal on the power play. Alexa Kobley and Reese Kampen picked up assists for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats lost to 8-0 to the Edmonton Junior Oilers White on Friday morning. Ashley Vezeau took the loss with 27 saves.

The Wildcats rebounded that evening with a 4-1 win over the Yellowhead Chiefs when Ottenbreit made 34 saves on 35 shots.

Kyla Benjamin scored twice, while Kara Bergen scored and assisted on two goals. Kaylee Williams also scored and had one assist. Emily McCleary, Sienna Watson, Charlize Hillmer, and Jade Thompson all picked up assists in the win.

Saturday, the Wildcats lost 3-2 to the Calgary Fire when Vezeau made 47 saves on 50 shots.

Benjamin and Madden Rublee scored in the loss. Kampen, Rayna Hennie, and Jalaa Moore Jagow had assists for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats concluded the weekend with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Saskatoon Stars on Sunday.

Dior Stringer scored the Wildcats only goal in the second period with assists from Taylre Becker and Kobley. Maggie Freeman had scored for the Stars in the first period.

Ottenbreit made 37 saves on 38 shots over 65 minutes and then stopped both Stars in the shootout.

Christiaens and Rayna Hennie both scored for the Wildcats in the shootout.

The third-place Wildcats (7-5-1-2) will return to Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League action this weekend when they visit the Saskatoon Stars (8-5-2-0) on Saturday and the Prince Albert Bears (4-7-0-2) on Sunday.
