The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires split a weekend visit to the Yorkton Maulers.
The U18 AAA Legionnaires took the opener 7-2 on Saturday when six different skaters found the back of the net. Carter Moen led the Legionnaires with a goal and two assists, while Porter Nickason scored twice. Connor Rieger, Keegan Nash, Kasey Gleim, and Wesley Olson also scored. Jake Hargrave, Triston Mitchell-Mcelhone, Jackson Fox, Mason Fauser, and Olson all added assists.
Cade Mitchell made 16 saves to improve to 14-3 on the campaign.
Swift Current’s Ryder Woods scored for the Maulers, who also got a goal from Mahlon Wiley and 26 saves from Reid Schweitzer.
The Legionnaires dropped the rematch 5-3 on Sunday when the Maulers finished three-for-eight on the power play.
Hargrave, Moen, and Fox all scored in the loss with assists from Trae Peterson, Mitchell-Mcelhone, and Olson. Connor Bender took the loss with 20 saves.
Swift Current’s Brady Simpson and Woods both scored for Yorkton. Brodie Heimbecker, Tanner Wiens, and Layne McKechnie also scored. Casson Silbernagel made 34 saves on 37 shots.
The Legionnaires finished the weekend in third spot in the Saskatchewan U18 AAA Hockey League with a 19-5-0 record. Yorkton improved to 4-18-1.
The Legionnaires will visit the second-place Regina Pat Canadians (19-5-0) for two games this weekend.
