Western Showdown begins Thursday

World-class curling will return to Swift Current this week with the RBC Dominion Securities Western Showdown.

The womens event begins Thursday with 20 teams competing for a $50,000 purse. The field is highlighted by Chelsea Carey, Kerri Einarsson, Kaitlyn Lawes, and Krista McCarville. The field also features entries from the United States, Switzerland, and Japan. 

The womens event will begin on Thursday at 9 a.m.

The mens event also features 20 teams and a $50,000 purse. Action begins Friday and features Brad Gushue, Brad Jacobs, and Kevin Koe. The mens field also includes three American rinks. 

The local rink of Steve Laycock features Swift Current’s Chris Haichert and Cabri’s Shaun Meachem. They placed second in the 2024 S3 Group Curling Stadium Series event in Swift Current this past weekend. 

The men’s event will begin on Friday at 8 a.m.Gushue, the six-time Briar champion skip, will play his first game at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
