A deep field of world-class curlers will be in Swift Current for the RBC Dominion Securities Western Showdown on Dec. 13-16.
The annual event will feature 20 mens and 20 womens teams, highlighted by some of the top curlers in the world.
“The Swift Current Curling Club is excited to once again host one of Canada’s largest International Curling Events of the season with over $100,000 in prize purse,” said event organizer Chris Haichert.
Among the biggest names on the womens side are Kerri Einerson, Kaitlyn Lawes, Chelsea Carey, Satsuki Fujisawa, and Krista McCarville.
Einerson is a four-time Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion. Lawes won gold at the Winter Olympics in 2014 and 2018.
Leading the way on the mens side are Brad Gushue, Matt Dunstone, Brad Jacobs, Reid Carruthers, Mike McEwen, and Kevin Koe.
Gushue won the 2006 Olympic gold medal in Turin and the World Championship in 2017 in Edmonton.
“It’s a real honour to be able to welcome the very best curling teams from across the world to our curling club and the city of Swift Current and we are excited to watch them put on a show for us up close and personal out on the ice,” said Chris Haichert.
The women’s field will feature the Japanese rink of Satsuki Fujisawa and the American rink of Delaney Strouse.
The men’s field will include Americans Daniel Casper, Ethan Sampson, and Korey Dropkin. The Steve Laycock rink will feature Cabri’s Shaun Meachem and Swift Current’s Chris Haichert.
The event will be hosted by the Swift Current Curling Club in the curling rink at the InnovationPlex.
“We have a world class facility with some of the best playing conditions across the World Curling Tour and it goes to show as these top teams continue to come back to Swift Current year after year,” said Haichert.
The event will feature viewing areas on the ice for spectators, as well as from the main floor lobby and upstairs in the lounge. All games will also be broadcast live on YouTube.
December 14 will include live entertainment featuring the Heatstrokes as well as ‘Free Beer for a Year’ Coolshots shuffleboard curling tournament. A silent auction will be held in the Patch with items donated from every single team competing in the event.
The draw will be posted on SCCC social media platforms as well as on the SCCC website and the CurlingZone website along with inside the curling club.
Tickets are on sale ahead of the event for $50 for a full event all exclusive pass or $20 for a day pass. Prices will increase at the door. Limited seating is available. Contact the SCCC for tickets and more information at sccurlingclub@sasktel.net or call 306-773-4001.
